Venue: Sound Control

Hi all,

As much as I enjoy gigging I have to say this venue was far from perfect. For a place called sound control I would have thought that the sound system would be near perfect but unfortunately it wasn't. Although I was listening front and centre there was a definite imbalance between the guitars and vocals which made it very hard to hear what the bands were singing...

Now on to the bands...

The support band was very funny to watch, they played a series of short songs, (roughly 20 seconds each), such as "Shot a Nail in my Head". Needless to say they settled the crowd into a very good mood.

The next band up was Japanese Voyeurs, a Grunge Metal band from London with members: Romily Alice (vocals); Thomas Lamb (bass); Johnny Seymour (guitar); Rich Walden (keyboard); and Steve Wilson (drums). Although their genre isn't my usually taste in music I absolutely loved these guys and girl with a sound that would rock any respectable metal head to their core. I have to say my favourite member of the band was their bass player Thomas, that guy really knows how to play, and he provided a rock steady foundation for the rest of the band to play on. The drummer was also very passionate about the songs, enough so that he smashed open his floor tom! Given the opportunity I would definitely see this band again.

The next and final band for me was Dinosaur Pile Up, a three-piece rock band from Leeds with members: Matt Bigland (lead vocals and guitar); Harry Johns (bassist); Mike Sheils (drums). These guys were very lively, and seemed to enjoy themselves on stage as did the crowd. They knocked about some of their kit but kept a level head throughout and we all had an enjoyable gig. Although they tried to get the crowd involved we were either so chilled out, or having such a good time that we didn't hear them, either way this band got a lot of praise and they very well deserved it.

Thanks for reading,

Alexei
